Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal is making steady progress in the treatment and care of kidney-related diseases, including kidney transplants. He expressed confidence that Nepal would soon be able to provide high-quality healthcare services at an affordable cost for patients suffering from kidney ailments.

Inaugurating the fifth Conference of the Nepal Society of Nephrology in Kathmandu on Friday, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the importance of health awareness and poverty reduction in achieving the goals of the government’s “Healthy Nepal” campaign.

Sharing his personal experience, PM Oli, who has undergone two kidney transplants, said he felt a sense of pride in having his second transplant done within Nepal itself during his tenure as Prime Minister. “During my first transplant, I had to go to India as such services were not available in the country. But today, I stand as an example that Nepal has advanced in providing these life-saving procedures at home,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister noted that the conclusions and recommendations emerging from the conference would be valuable for Nepal in undertaking policy reforms aimed at improving kidney health services. He also pledged continued government support for advancing kidney care and treatment in the country.

Speaking at the event, Nepal Society of Nephrology President Prof. Dr. Dibya Singh Shah highlighted the growing challenge of kidney diseases in South Asia and the importance of preventive efforts to tackle the issue.
